Contraception

20 years ago when I looked at contraception I thought it was so simple. Put everyone on the pill. It makes it easier. Or if you did not want that, maybe depo or implant device? As I have gotten older and have started researching a lot of the things with contraception, there’s a lot more options, but a lot of the times there’s actually more controversy. There are women who don’t do well with the pill. There are people who don’t like taking a pill. I am able to advise on something called natural family planning for people who don’t want to use the pill at all, or just using barrier methods, oral contraception whether it be a transdermal or a vaginal approach, or a long-term approach using an arm implant called Nexplanon, or using IUD’s. There’s a customization that needs to be done with contraception and sometimes I don’t think we as providers give enough education. I want you to feel educated with the choices that you’re making so you can feel supported in making the right choice. But whatever choice you make, know that it can always be changed.
